Paw Cards Give Dog Owners a New Way to Break the Ice in Social Situations

A calling card for your dog may be just the icebreaker you need to improve your social life.

February 26, 2004--Paw Cards are a great way to begin a conversation in those awkward first moments when you meet someone new, and a great way to give out your own contact information.

Customers are telling us how helpful Paw Cards are in social situations, said Rodney Ash, creator of the unique cards for dogs. We are hearing how fun it is to hand out the cards, and how easy it is to use them to start a conversation.

Ash gave an example of how a customer reported that when he was walking his dog in Aspen, Colo. a number of women stopped to pet the dog.

He told us that many women would stop to pet his dog, and they would often ask the dogs name. He would answer, Oh, his name is Fetcher and here is his card. Most said something like, Thats Cool, or I need to get one of these for my dog.

Dog owners are very proud of their dogs, and they like showcasing them to others. They love the cards because they can show off their dog, even when the dog is not with them, explained Ash.

For some their dogs Paw Card is just a way to show their pride in their pet, but for others it becomes a new type of calling card that opens doors that might not have otherwise been available to them.

Singles looking for other singles are using their pets and their Paw Cards every day to meet new people, said Ash. When singles are out walking their dog they no longer need to feel awkward about exchanging phone numbers or e-mail addresses. They can swap Paw Cards and suggest that they call each other to plan the next walk so they can let their dogs play in the park together.

Its a great way to break the ice and start a relationship based on a mutual enjoyment for dogs, said Ash.

Ash created the first Paw Card for his own golden retriever, Benny.

Before I created Benny a PawCard, it seemed like on every walk we would come across another new dog and master. While the dogs greeted each other, we made small talk by asking Whats your dogs name? But the interesting thing is, you would never ask what their name was.

Over the span of a year, I got to know the names of over 50 dogs in the neighborhood, but interestingly enough I only knew the name of a couple of owners names. They didnt know me and I didnt know them, but we all knew each others dog.

Paw Cards changed all of that. I started passing out Bennys card, which also had my name and information on it. Neighbors started getting their own cards and before long the whole neighborhood got to know each other. Now we socialize together, and it is all because of Paw Cards, said Ash.

Some customers even report using the cards in social situations when their dog is not with them.

When you want to break the ice and start a conversation, often the easiest thing to do is hand the other person your dogs Paw Card and say something like, This is my dog Jasmine. Do you have a dog?

Thats usually enough to get a conversation, and a friendship started, explained Ash.
